Scrum half Mark Staley dictated the game from the base of the scrum linking well with his back row and backs when needed. With the scrum working well for the home side, Staley had little pressure put on him and continued to make darting breaks into Blaina's 22. One such break found flanker Mike Owen in support and crossed over under the posts, the next two tries were scored by Staley himself, firstly throwing a dummy and racing over from 25m and the next saw him attack the blind side and cross in the corner. Williams converted all three.
The half ended with the home side going in with a much deserved 28 point lead, restricting the visitors to entering they half only from the restarts.
The second half was a much closer encounter and the Blaina scrum started to dominate the game, but it was the home side who registered the first score of the half when No.8 Richard Harris crashed over from a tap penalty which Williams converted.(35-0) Blaina never gave up the fight and responded late in the game with two unconverted tries of they own(35-10), but it was the home side who rounded off the scoring when Blaina failed to gather a probing kick by Williams and center Kevin Meredith touched down over the line.
Next week Cwmtillery are home to Fleur 2nd at the Jim Owen Field kick off 2.30 Cwmtillery's recent good form is attracting players and this is down to the work put in by the coaching staff and Jason Rimes. Training takes place in the school sports hall on Mondays 8 -9 and on the Astroturf on Wednesday nights at 7.30.
