Silent Valley Walk (14 Miles)... |
![]() I started by walking up the Concrete road passing the forest of Cefn Crib on the left over the stile situated in the corner and then descended into the Ebbw Fach valley and the Rose hey worth housing estate.
Down pass the School and across the land where the Rose Hey Worth colliery once stood. Over the A467 road, on to the playing field and walking the edge of the Ebbw Fach River you enter the Abertillery Park.
Looking back at the Abertillery RFC Field, Rose Hey Worth Estate and the forest of Cefn Crib before climbing up through the park and crossing the Old Blaina road.
A mile gentle climb leads you into the Arail Bank Woodland, Coetgae, then west which takes you onto Cwm Big
Couldn't resist taking this photo of the Cwmtillery Valley
I followed the mountain tops north across Cefn Bach, Cefn Yr Arail, Darren Ddu and finally reaching Mynydd Carn y Cefn. On my way I passed the remains of this old Coal Tip (blast from the passed).
Looking northwest on a clear day you will get fabulous view of Pen-y-Fan, the highest summit in the Brecon Beacons.
Another view looking south towards Abertillery
From Carn – y –Cefn I descended into Blaina and after a short climb I arrived at the Cwmcelyn pond.
After passing Cwmcelyn pond it’s a zig zag climb through the forest as you climb up to the Mynydd James mountain top.
From here I continued across the top of Mynydd James following mostly sheep tracks and admiring the views down into the Cwmtillery valley, before descending to meet the concrete road. |
