The Biodiversity scheme in St Paul's Churchyard
Over one hundred children from Blaentillery school took part in planting a new wood in the top section of our churchyard to be called Coed Bach Blaentyleri. Several hundred native shrubs, heathers, and trees have been planted elsewhere around the churchyard, to create hedgerow boundaries for the benefit of wildlife.

Over the years the grounds of St. Paul's churchyard have suffered: lack of funding, too few volunteers and little enthusiasm.

In November 2001 local people met at St Paul's vicarage to discuss how they could get involved in improving the beautiful buildings and grounds. As a result a group called "Friends of St.Paul's" was set up, with working teams, dates and limited funds work commenced. Areas of improvement would initially include repair of dangerous steps, remove dead and overhanging branches and erect fallen Headstones. Future developments included bulb planting, handrails, new paths and steps, low level lighting and benches. Also bird, bat boxes and nature trials to help preserve wildlife.

Volunteers started work in December 2001, but most of this work will only be possible via Fund-raising . If you can help in any way, please get in touch. Friends of St. Paul's are inviting you to become a member for just £1.00 per year and, as a member, you will receive a newsletter every 4 months. Alternatively, you may make a donation in memory of a loved one, which will also be used towards the work being carried out.

Membership forms are available from Cheryl Morris "This and That Fashions" Please help if you can as most of this work will only be possible via Fund-raising.
