GROWING STRONG

These are exciting times for Adam Street Community Allotments.  Plans are under way to regenerate the site and already funding has been secured from Keep Wales Tidy to pay for the insurance, materials and protective equipment for project volunteers who will help with path laying.  Partnerships have been formed with Ebbw Vale Comprehensive School whose pupils are helping to prepare plots for those plot holders who are less able and with the Arches Agency whose clients have been allocated part of the site for community use.  Discussions are under way with Blaenau Gwent Social Services to see how best the site can be used by the more vulnerable members of the community.

The Society has already received a great deal of support from Communities First Abertillery Ward and GAVO, however, it is not only public bodies who are helping.  Play 4 Wales, a local manufacturer based in Newbridge, which has 20 years experience in manufacturing and installing rubber safety surfaces, has donated enough safety material to lay the surface of the area designated for community use.  This is a tremendous help as it will ensure that those users who are less mobile (including wheelchair users) will be able to access the site with absolute safety.

Other funding applications are in the pipeline --- watch this space!
