The Red Ash in its working days
extracted coal from the Mynydd James mountainside. Its entrance can still be
seen located at the top of what is now called the concrete road. Over the last
few months water has been seen seeping down the mountainside towards the lower
lake area.
Investigations found the tunnel wall of the level was the cause of the leakage.
The level tunnel turns sharp right after a few yards and heads in a northern
direction, a few yards in and the area which caused the problem was
found.Excavation work uncovered the tunnel wall
and a large pipes and a soak away system installed, this redirect the flow into
one of the many drainage ducts installed in the mountainside. |
