| Cwmtillery
made hard work of this Division 2 encounter away to Abercarn but pulled clear
in the last 10 minutes. Cwmtillery was the first to score in this evenly matched encounter when Abercarn were caught off-side and Mark Williams stepped up to slot over an easy 3 points. With the game riddled with errors neither side looked like scoring until Captain Adam Pegler peeled away from a ruck late in the first half to crash over. (0-8) The second half saw Abercarn strike first with a try wide out on the touchline to bring the scores to 5-8 in Cwmtillery's favour. With time now running out and the game in the balance, Cwmtillery made some tactical substitutions. Centre Kevin Meredith's inclusion brought another option to the Cwmtillery game plan and they were quick to capitalize on this when the ball was sent over to winger Tony Finney to cross over in the corner for an unconverted try. ( 5-13). Fellow wing Damien Attwell rounded off the tries when from a scrum 5 the ball was fed out to him on the blind side and went over unopposed which Williams converted (5-20). This week saw the welcome return of Chris Paul and Ian Padfield, the later showing his versatility when playing in the backrow but also covering in the backs when reduced to 14 men. Cwmtillery remain unbeaten in the league this season and continue their campaigne next week with a home fixture against local rivals Old Tylerians KO 2.30. |
