Cwm 0 Vs Cwmtillery Saracens 50
Gwent Districts Division 2
On Saturday Cwmtillery travelled to Cwm for this Gwent Districts Division 2 encounter and came away with a high scoring win.
With Cwmtillery missing key front row players, props Tony Jayne and Don Hale came to the rescue to enable this game to take place. Cwmtillery outlined they commitment to running rugby as early as the 4th minute when winger Ryan Davies was fed the ball after a kick and chase to score in the corner which was converted by Mark Williams returning after a loan period to Abertillery. Minutes later scrum half and captain Mark Staley was next to score with his customary dummy close to the line from a turnover scrum converted by Williams. (0-14).
Cwm next kicked away possession into the Tillery 22 only for Williams to counterattack from deep and the ball was fed across the line for winger Damian Attwell to race in from 50m, Williams converted. (0-21). Next to score for Tillery was flanker Sean Bull who showed excellent work rate to pop up at the end of a backs move to jinks his way over close to the posts. Williams converted (0-28). The last move of the first half saw the Tillery pack drive their hosts off their scrum ball, which allowed No8 Richard Harris to continue his scoring spree from short distance. (0-33)
Half-Time Cwm 0 - Cwmtillery 33
Cwmtillery were quick to maintain they scoring when prop Tony Jayne was fed the ball short on half way, beat the Cwm defence only to get wrapped up in midfield but somehow managed to wriggle free and continue his run to score a well deserved try between the posts which Williams converted (0-40).
Cwmtillery started to make the changes giving all their squad a run out which disrupted the continuity of the team but they soon settled back into they scoring when scrum half Mark Perrit picked up at the base and fed winger Tony Finney to race over out wide (0-45). Finney ended the scoring for Cwmtillery when Cwm again kicked away possession which allowed Tillery to counter attack from deep feeding the winger early enough for him to beat the covering defence and score out wide ( 0-50) *
