| Cwmtillery followed up last weeks 55-5 win against Old T's with a high scoring win against Cwmcarn United in Division 2 of the Gwent District league to remain unbeaten in the League this year. The competition for places in the squad is hotting up with new players joining each week, the latest big Dave Gardner joining after recently moving to the area. Cwmtillery commitment to open running rugby continued and were quick to capatalise on this when after only 3 min centre Kevin Meredith cut through the defense to score close to the posts, Alun Edmunds converted. Next to score was Cwmtillerys man of the match, centre Jason Rimes finishing off a good move out wide, Edmunds converted (0-14).Liam Beattie was next to cross for Cwmtillery followed by another for Rimes both converted by Edmunds and the half was rounded off by outstanding hooker Lewis Elliot crashing over close to the touchline. HT 0 -33. To their credit Cwmcarn never gave up were rewarded with the first try of the second half. (5 -33). Cwmtillery continued their scoring when No.8 Richard Harris crossed the line quickly followed by flanker Ian Padfield. With the forwards making deep runs into the Cwmcarn half the Cwmtillery backs were able to capatalise on the possession they received and winger Gareth Samuals was next to score, converted by replacement fullback Mark Willaims, and powerful running by centre Rimes enabled him to cross for his third try. With the forwards eager to get on the score sheet and the Cwmcarn pack tiring, gaps in the defense and loose tackling started to appear which allowed Tim Gifford and Harris again to complete the scoring for Cwmtillery. (5-69) Next week Cwmtillery have a tough League encounter against local rivals Aberbeeg. KO at the Jim Owen field is 2.30. |
