Cwmtillery Saracens RFC - Match Reports
Fleur 2nds 15 Cwmtillery 25
Cwmtillery travelled to Fleur for this Gwent Districts league fixture with both sides so far unbeaten in the league.
Cwmtillery started the stronger of the two sides and were quick to open the scoring when centre Kevin Meredith crossed under the posts from a well worked backs move which Mark Williams converted. Williams then converted a penalty in front of the posts to stretch the visitors lead to 10 -0.
The bigger Fleur pack then started to raise their game and went into the lead just before half time resulting from two tries and a conversion 10-12. The make shift Cwmtillery side never gave up and battled their back into the lead when winger Glen Bridge crossed out wide (15-12) and further stretched their lead when Meredith crossed for his second try, Williams converted (20-12).
With time running out and the game still in the balance Fleur reduced the lead from a penalty in front of the posts (20-15) before Williams sealed the win with another Cwmtillery penalty sending Cwmtillery to the top of their league.
With so many players not available this week this was an excellent result for the young Cwmtillery side and special mention must go to backs Mike Owen, Liam Beattie and Ryan Davies who all gave their all playing in the forwards.
Next week Cwmtillery play another top of the table clash when they entertain Abertyswg.
