Cwmtillery Saracens RFC - Match Reports
Cwmtillery 15 Blaenavon Forgeside 12
Cwmtillery this week entertained Blaenavon Forgeside in a friendly fixture and with a number of key players still missing, resulted in a patched side and a scrappy game.
Cwmtillery took the lead after 10min when Captain, Adam Pegler, returning from injury, controlled a rolling maul, set up by winger Tony Finney, and scored in the corner. (5-0)
With indiscipline creeping into both teams Cwmtillery was reduced to 14 when prop Craig Yemm was sin binned for an infringement at the ruck and from the resulting penalty Forge decided to run the ball and their forwards kept it tight and crashed over from short range for a converted try. (5-7) Cwmtillery replied on the stroke on half-time when No.8 Richard Harris picked up from the base of the scrum 30m out and ran through the visitor's defense to score out wide. Prop Pegler then took control of the ball and sweetly slotted over the conversion to retake the lead (12-7)
The second half continued to be a scrappy affair and on the hour the visitors drew level with an unconverted try in the corner. (12-12) With time running out for the equally matched sides, up stepped full back Gareth Samuals to slot over the winning points for Cwmtillery.
Next week Cwmtillery make the short trip over to Cwm in the Gwent Districts League.
