On Saturday Cwmtillery entertained Tredegar Ironsides 2nds up at the Jim Owen Field, Cwmtillery in they first game of their Gwent Districts Division 2 campaign.
From the start, Cwmtillery outlined they intensions of playing fast flowing open rugby and quickly registered they first score when No.8 Richard Harris powered his way over the try line. Further tries in the opening half went to Alun Edmunds, Damian Atwell and Mark Williams, Williams converting 3 of them and Edmunds also dropping a long range drop goal from 45m.

With the game already won Cwmtillery started to make the changes in the second half giving all their squad a run out and the second half continued in the same way as the first with tries coming from Kevin Meredith, Richard Harris, Mark Staley and Gareth Edwards. Willaims again converting 3 of them.

To they credit Ironsides never gave up and battled to the end but failed to beat the tight Cwmtillery defence. With the front row missing several of the regular props due to work commitments and injury, special mention must go to Gareth Edwards and Tim Gifford for slotting into the thoughs positions.
The club is still looking for more players to recruit but will this week capture the signing of several key players to bolster the squad. Training takes place at the Roseheyworth field on Mon & Wed at 6.30pm under the coaching of Dave Williams and Mike Allen– all players welcome.
Next week Cwmtillery travel to New Tredegar in the first round of the Cyrus Davies Cup.
