| Cwmtillery Saracens 13 - Pontllanfraith 2nds 12 | |
| With
Pontllanfraith first XV without a fixture this weekend, Cwmtillery faced a very
strong 'second side' but came away with a well deserved 13-12 win . The first
half was equally matched throughout with the Cwmtillery defense holding out up
against the bigger and more experienced Pont side. Their defense stayed
intacted up until 5 min from half time when their defense was breached out wide
for an unconverted try which took them into a 0-5 lead at half time After the break the visitors were again first to strike with a converted try resulting from a rolling maul 0-12. Cwmtillerys response was immediate and they started to chip away at the Pont lead with a penalty by fullback Mark Williams. On the hour Pont failed to gather their own lineout ball on the 10m line and flanker Sean Bull capatalised on the loose ball to gather and feed hooker Lewis Elliot to cross the line for an unconverted try 8-12. With Cwmtillery still chasing the game and time running out the Cwmtillery pack worked hard to turn the ball over and the backs fed winger Glenn Bridge who raced over from 25m to score the winning try and keep Cwmtillerys League campaign still on track. Big games were had by center Gareth Edwards and outside half Alen Edmunds tackled his heart out. Next week Cwmtillery look forward to their Cyrus Davies semi-final appearance against Welsh Disticts cup finalists Trefil. The match takes place at Cwm RFC with a 2.00pm KO.
