Carp Cyprinus carpio The species was first introduced into the UK in the 17th/18th century, by the European monk as a food source. Carp can be identified by two barbels on each side of the mouth. Most are bronze-gold to golden yellow and yellowish white on the belly. Partly scaled or scaleless individuals are are known as "Mirror" carp.
